President Donald Trump has described the newly agreed ceasefire with Iran as a decisive triumph for the United States, declaring it a “total and complete victory.”

In a phone call with AFP on Tuesday, Trump voiced strong confidence in the agreement, hinting that China may have helped push Iran toward negotiations. He also said Tehran’s enriched uranium would be “perfectly taken care of.”

The ceasefire was finalized just under an hour before a US deadline for potential military escalation expired.

“Total and complete victory. 100 percent. No question about it,” Trump said.

While Washington has framed the deal as a success, Tehran has also claimed credit, leaving uncertainties about the details of the agreement.

Trump said there was already significant progress toward a broader deal.

“We have a 15 point transaction, of which most of those things have been agreed on. We’ll see what happens. We’ll see if it gets there,” he noted.

He previously revealed that Iran submitted a 10-point proposal, which he called “workable.”

Pressed on whether he would return to earlier threats of targeting Iran’s infrastructure if negotiations fail, Trump responded: “You’re going to have to see.”

Addressing concerns over Iran’s nuclear materials, Trump insisted safeguards would be in place.

“That will be perfectly taken care of, or I wouldn’t have settled,” he said.

The ceasefire follows more than a month of hostilities involving the US and Israel, with Pakistan reportedly playing a mediation role.

Trump also acknowledged possible Chinese involvement in bringing Iran to the table.

“I hear yes,” he said.

He is scheduled to visit Beijing in mid-May for talks with Xi Jinping after postponing an earlier trip to oversee developments in Washington during the conflict.
