2027 election: Uba Sani faces 17 candidates in Kaduna governorship contest
Governor Uba Sani will face 17 other candidates in the 2027 Kaduna governorship election, with INEC publishing candidates’ particulars.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani will have 17 opponents to contend with in the 2027 governorship election, with 18 political parties reported to have nominated candidates for the race.
The development follows the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s commencement of the publication of the personal particulars and credentials of governorship candidates nominated by political parties.
The electoral commission began the exercise on Saturday as part of the preparations for the 2027 elections.
Sani is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is expected to have Jerry Adams as his running mate.
Among the candidates whose names have so far been identified are Isa Ashiru of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bawa Usman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Muhammad Jamilu of the Accord Party and Adamu Ahmed of the Action Alliance (AA).
Also listed are Tukur Rabiu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Idris Adamu of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Aminu Abdulfatah of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Auwal Tafoki of the Labour Party (LP).
Despite the reported emergence of 18 candidates, the full list of governorship contenders and their running mates was yet to be displayed at the INEC office in Kaduna as of Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the identities and particulars of the remaining candidates are expected to become available once the official publication is completed.
INEC explains delay
INEC’s Public Relations Officer in Kaduna State, Mrs Ramatu Mohammad, confirmed to NAN that the complete list had not been pasted at the commission’s office in the state.
Mohammad asked the public and journalists to exercise patience, assuring them that the publication would be done soon.
She said the details of the candidates would be accessible to the public once the process was concluded.
The publication of candidates’ particulars is part of INEC’s electoral process and gives political parties, candidates and members of the public an opportunity to scrutinise the information submitted by the contestants.
Kaduna race gathers momentum
The emergence of multiple candidates is expected to intensify political activities in Kaduna ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The state is among those expected to witness a closely contested governorship race as political parties position themselves and begin building alliances ahead of the poll.
The eventual publication of the complete list, including all deputy governorship candidates, is expected to offer a clearer picture of the political alliances and strategies being developed by the various parties.
For incumbent Governor Uba Sani, the contest will involve defending his seat against 17 challengers as he seeks another term in office under the APC.
