2027 Polls: Mudashiru Obasa Eyes Reps Seat After APC Power Shift — Sources
Lagos Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa may contest for a House of Representatives seat in 2027 after dropping his governorship ambition, sources say.
Indications have emerged that Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, may settle for a House of Representatives seat for Agege Federal Constituency in the 2027 elections, following changes in the political landscape within the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Obasa had initially set his sights on the governorship, seeking to succeed Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and had stepped up consultations statewide through the Mandate Group, a political network associated with Bola Tinubu.
However, party insiders revealed that the trajectory changed after Tinubu, alongside the Governance Advisory Council, reportedly endorsed Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the preferred candidate.
Subsequently, Obasa was said to have considered contesting the Lagos West senatorial seat, currently occupied by Idiat Adebule.
“His interest gained traction amid internal party considerations…” sources noted.
The plan, however, met resistance from key stakeholders, particularly the party’s women’s wing, which argued that Adebule’s position is crucial as the only female senator from the South-West.
In response, Tinubu was said to have advised the Speaker to redirect his ambition.
“He was specifically directed to contest for the Agege Federal Constituency currently represented by Wale Ahmed,” sources disclosed.
Obasa has reportedly begun mobilising support at the grassroots level in Agege, signalling a strategic repositioning ahead of the elections.
Analysts say the development highlights the shifting alliances and internal negotiations shaping the APC in Lagos as the 2027 polls draw closer.
