Adeleke Hails APC Candidate Oyebamiji for Peace Appeal After Osun Poll
Governor Adeleke welcomes Bola Oyebamiji’s peace appeal after the Osun election, assuring APC members that his supporters will not attack them.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has welcomed the peace appeal by APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji following the conclusion of the state election, describing the development as encouraging after a tense campaign period.
Oyebamiji had urged APC members and his supporters to maintain peace and order after the election. He said he respected the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) position on the poll while maintaining that his party would review the election outcome.
Adeleke, in response, praised the APC candidate’s stance, describing his call for calm as “a positive tone after weeks of heated campaign and election season”.
The governor said the development was particularly important for Osun after what he described as two months of fear, tension and violence leading up to the election held last Saturday.
Adeleke, who also met President Bola Tinubu after the poll, said his administration had never considered violence an acceptable political tool, even during periods of intense pressure.
‘My Supporters Have Not and Will Not Attack APC Members’
The governor reiterated his commitment to peace and assured Oyebamiji that his supporters would not target members of the opposition party.
“I am forever a man of peace. It is heartwarming that my brother, Oyebamiji, is also preaching peace. I assure him that my supporters have not and will not attack APC members,” he said.
Adeleke urged all political stakeholders to put the election behind them and concentrate on delivering good governance to the people.
“Elections have come and gone and we are all winners. The common task for us all is to sustain delivery of democratic dividends and good governance to the good people of Osun State.”
He further called on former governor Gboyega Oyetola, Oyebamiji and other opposition leaders to join his administration in advancing the state.
“I welcome Mr Gboyega Oyetola, Bola Oyebamiji and other opposition leaders to join hands with me to take Osun to greater heights. We are all important stakeholders in this Osun project,” Adeleke stated.
