AFEDEV announces maiden Wheelchair American Football exhibition in Nigeria
AFEDEV has announced Nigeria’s maiden Wheelchair American Football exhibition, aimed at promoting inclusion, leadership and adaptive sports in Lagos.
The American Football for Educational Development (AFEDEV) says Nigeria will host its first-ever Wheelchair American Football exhibition as part of efforts to promote inclusion, leadership and equal participation through sports.
The exhibition is scheduled for September 10 at the Outdoor Basketball Arena of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), National Stadium, Lagos, and will begin at 10:00 a.m.
AFEDEV Media Coordinator, Josiah Orie, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Lagos on Friday.
He explained that the event is designed to introduce Wheelchair American Football to the country while creating opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate in an innovative adaptive sport.
“The exhibition focuses on introducing an innovative adaptive sport that would also promote equal opportunity and community participation for persons with disabilities,” Orie said.
According to him, invitations have been extended to government agencies, diplomatic missions, corporate organisations, educational institutions, disability organisations, development partners and the media to attend the landmark event.
AFEDEV said the exhibition would serve as the first step toward establishing Wheelchair American Football in Nigeria and advancing inclusive sporting opportunities across the country.
