Air Peace Flights Disrupted in Lagos, Abuja as Labour Unions Block Terminals
Air Peace flights from Lagos and Abuja were disrupted after labour unions blocked access to the airline’s departure terminals amid ongoing industrial action.
LAGOS — Air Peace has apologised to passengers after industrial action by organised labour unions disrupted its scheduled flight operations in Lagos and Abuja.
The airline said the action led by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, saw union members barricade entrances to its departure terminals.
In Lagos, the affected facilities included Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1, comprising the Alpha and Zulu Terminals, and Terminal 2.
The blockade also extended to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport terminal in Abuja, restricting access and preventing scheduled Air Peace flights from taking off from the two cities.
Air Peace management said the disruption had left a significant number of passengers affected across its network.
“The ongoing industrial action has resulted in the barricading of the entrances to our departure terminals at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 (Alpha and Zulu Terminals) and Terminal 2 in Lagos, as well as the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Terminal in Abuja,” the airline said.
It added: “The blockade has restricted access to these terminals, preventing the departure of scheduled flights from Lagos and Abuja. Consequently, passengers scheduled to travel across our network have been significantly affected by the disruption to flight operations.”
The airline expressed regret over the situation and apologised to passengers who were stranded or otherwise affected.
“Air Peace sincerely apologises to all affected and stranded passengers for the disruption and inconvenience caused by circumstances beyond the airline’s control,” the statement said.
The airline also said it was contacting passengers scheduled to travel later in the day and providing updates as the situation developed.
“Passengers scheduled to travel later today are being contacted and provided with relevant updates as the situation evolves,” it added.
The disruption comes amid ongoing industrial action by aviation and organised labour unions, with the latest blockade affecting Air Peace’s ability to operate scheduled flights from Nigeria’s two major airports.
