Alexx Ekubo’s Death Painful Loss to Abia and Nollywood – Otti
Alexx Ekubo’s funeral held in Abia drew tributes from Gov Otti, Nollywood stars, and sympathisers following the actor’s death at age 40.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has expressed sadness over the death of popular Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, describing it as a painful loss to the state, the entertainment industry, and millions of fans worldwide.
The governor made the remarks during the actor’s funeral service on Thursday at the Mary Slessor Technical College Ground in Arochukwu, Abia State.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Caleb Ajagba, Otti said the late actor used his talent and influence to positively represent Abia State and Nigeria on the global stage.
He stated that Ekubo’s journey in life symbolised determination, creativity, and hard work, qualities that inspired many young Nigerians.
“Alex possessed that rare gift of connecting with people through his performances,” the governor said.
“He brought joy to homes, inspired young people and demonstrated that with discipline, dedication and excellence, greatness is achievable.”
Otti further noted that the actor never abandoned his roots and remained proud of his heritage throughout his career.
According to the governor, although Ekubo’s passing has created a gap in Nollywood, his works and legacy will continue to live on.
He encouraged the family, friends, and members of the entertainment industry to stay strong during the mourning period.
At the service, the Resident Pastor of Streams of Joy, Umuahia, Mrs. Eno Jerry-Eze, delivered a sermon titled “Please Forgive God,” urging people to reflect on their lives and remember that everyone would one day give account of their stewardship on earth.
Paying tribute to her late brother, Mrs. Kelechi Ekubo-Otusi described him as a loving, humble, caring, and God-fearing man who dedicated his life to serving humanity.
Alexx Ekubo died in May at the age of 40 after battling complications linked to advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
The funeral ceremony was attended by government officials, Nollywood stars, and sympathisers from different parts of Nigeria.
