Bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. delivered a stunning late blow to Liverpool F.C. with a 2-1 victory secured by Andre’s stoppage-time strike on Tuesday night.

Liverpool, managed by Arne Slot, were caught out in the 78th minute when Rodrigo Gomes broke the deadlock. Mohamed Salah ended his 11-game league drought by equalising five minutes later.

But Wolves had the final say as Andre capitalised on a poor clearance from Alisson Becker, his effort deflecting off Joe Gomez before looping into the net.

The result marked the first time since 2017 that the Premier League’s bottom side has beaten the reigning champions — when Crystal Palace F.C. defeated Chelsea F.C..

Liverpool, now with 14 goals conceded in the final 15 minutes of second halves this season — second only to Newcastle United F.C. — remain fifth, but risk being overtaken by Chelsea F.C. if the Blues defeat Aston Villa F.C..

The match included an emotional tribute in the 18th minute as fans honoured Diogo Jota, who previously wore that number at Molineux before joining Liverpool. The Portugal forward died in a car crash in Spain last year.

Liverpool now face a swift opportunity for redemption when they return to Molineux for their FA Cup fifth-round encounter on Friday.

In other results, Everton F.C. defeated Burnley F.C. 2-0, Sunderland A.F.C. claimed a 1-0 win over Leeds United F.C., while AFC Bournemouth and Brentford F.C. drew 0-0.
