Antonio Silva Joins Bournemouth in Reported £25m Transfer from Benfica
Portugal international Antonio Silva has joined Bournemouth from Benfica in a reported £25m deal. The defender arrives after making 235 appearances for the Portuguese club.
Premier League side Bournemouth have bolstered their defence with the signing of Portugal centre-back Antonio Silva from Benfica in a transfer reportedly valued at £25 million ($33 million).
The Portuguese defender arrives as Bournemouth’s second acquisition of the week after the club secured Elche striker Alvaro Rodriguez. Silva is set to replace Marcos Senesi, who recently joined Tottenham on a free transfer.
Silva leaves Benfica after making 235 first-team appearances and lifting six major honours with the Lisbon club. The 22-year-old has also represented Portugal 20 times, featuring at the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024, although he did not make the squad for the latest World Cup in North America.
Speaking after completing the move, Silva said:
“I am very happy to be here. It’s a pleasure to play for Bournemouth and in the Premier League.
“I can’t wait to start the season with my teammates. The mentality is always to win.
“I will try my best, and I will play for the fans. We have everything here that helps us perform on the pitch.”
