Atiku Gains Early Advantage in ADC Presidential Primary, Wins Six States
Atiku Abubakar is leading the ADC presidential primary after securing victories in six states ahead of Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has taken an early lead in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary after emerging victorious in six states where results have been released.
The former vice president has so far won in Sokoto State, Abia State, Osun State, Gombe State, Ebonyi State and Zamfara State, ahead of fellow aspirants Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
While the ADC national leadership is yet to officially publish the final collated results, figures gathered from state collation centres and party officials show Atiku maintaining a significant lead.
In Gombe State, Atiku recorded 139,334 votes, while Amaechi polled 1,150 votes and Hayatu-Deen secured 464 votes.
Abia State results showed Atiku leading with 25,153 votes, compared to Amaechi’s 18,339 votes and Hayatu-Deen’s 3,264 votes.
In Ebonyi, Atiku secured 15,300 votes, while Amaechi scored 2,200 votes and Hayatu-Deen received 200 votes.
Sokoto results showed Atiku polling 69,431 votes ahead of Amaechi’s 292 votes and Hayatu-Deen’s 319 votes.
Zamfara State also favoured the former vice president, who secured 60,500 votes, while Hayatu-Deen and Amaechi polled 436 and 191 votes respectively.
In Osun State, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Adepoju Abimbola, announced that Atiku won in all 30 local government areas with 12,321 votes.
A statement released on Tuesday by ADC Publicity Secretary Seun Abosede said Atiku secured 12,321 votes out of the 17,000 accredited voters during the exercise.
According to the statement, Hayatu-Deen came second with 4,000 votes, while Amaechi scored 679 votes.
The primary election is ongoing and will determine the ADC’s presidential flagbearer for the 2027 general elections.
