Aubameyang Leads Salah, Eto’o in Top 5 African Scorers in Europe’s Big Five Leagues

Africa has produced a long list of elite forwards who have excelled on European football’s biggest stages.
From the Premier League and La Liga to the Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A, African attackers have consistently delivered goals at the highest level. Based on their combined goals in Europe’s five major domestic leagues, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang currently sits at the summit, ahead of Mohamed Salah and Samuel Eto’o.
Here are the five leading African scorers:
1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang — 250
Aubameyang is currently Africa’s highest-scoring player across Europe’s five major leagues, with 250 goals to his name.
The Gabonese striker has scored in Ligue 1, the Bundesliga, the Premier League and La Liga during a career that has included spells at Saint-Étienne, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Barcelona, Marseille and Deportivo.
His tally gives him an eight-goal advantage over Salah.
2. Mohamed Salah — 228
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah follows closely behind with 228 goals.
The Egyptian has scored in Serie A and the Premier League, with most of his goals coming during his outstanding spell with Liverpool.
Salah had previously scored 35 times in Serie A before becoming one of the most prolific African goalscorers in Premier League history.
Beyond his goalscoring record, he has registered 113 assists, meaning he has been directly involved in 341 goals across Europe’s top five leagues.
3. Samuel Eto’o — 209
One of Cameroon’s greatest footballers, Samuel Eto’o, occupies third place with 209 goals.
Spain was the setting for much of Eto’o’s goalscoring success, with the former Barcelona forward scoring 162 times in La Liga.
He also scored goals in Serie A and the Premier League during his decorated career.
Eto’o’s 209-goal record stands out even more given that some periods of his career were spent outside Europe’s five leading domestic leagues.
4. Didier Drogba — 143
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba is fourth with 143 goals.
The Ivory Coast striker scored 104 Premier League goals for Chelsea and added 39 goals during his time in Ligue 1.

Malian forward Frédéric Kanouté rounds off the top five with 141 goals.
He featured for West Ham and Tottenham in the Premier League before making a major impact in Spain, where he became particularly prolific with Sevilla.
Of his 141 goals across Europe’s five major leagues, 89 came in La Liga, making Spain’s top division the largest contributor to his career total.
