FC Barcelona produced a dominant performance to dismantle Newcastle United 7-2 on Wednesday, progressing to the Champions League quarter-finals with an 8-3 aggregate win.

Braces from Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski powered the Catalan side, while Lamine Yamal, Marc Bernal and Fermin Lopez added further goals in a one-sided second leg at Camp Nou.

Despite a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Barcelona quickly imposed themselves, with Raphinha opening the scoring after a well-worked attacking move.

Newcastle responded through Anthony Elanga, but Barcelona restored their lead through Bernal. The English side equalised again when Elanga punished a defensive error.

The turning point came before halftime when Yamal converted a penalty after a foul by Kieran Trippier.

Barcelona dominated the second half, with Lopez scoring early before Lewandowski added two goals, ending his recent struggles in front of goal.

Raphinha later capitalised on a defensive mistake to complete the rout as Newcastle’s resistance collapsed.

The victory sends Barcelona into the quarter-finals in emphatic fashion, underlining their ambition to win the competition for the first time in over a decade, while Newcastle bow out after a heavy defeat.
