Bianca Ojukwu Takes Over as Foreign Affairs Minister as Tuggar Resigns for 2027 Race
Bianca Ojukwu takes over as Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister as Tinubu nominates Enikanolaiye as Minister of State.
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Minister of Foreign Affairs after Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar resigned his position to pursue his 2027 political ambitions.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously held the position of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, now steps into the top role.
The President also nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as the new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to Senate approval.
Before his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations. He is widely regarded as a veteran diplomat, with over 30 years of service, including tenure as Permanent Secretary and diplomatic assignments in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.
The presidency stated that the appointments are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s foreign policy direction through “greater efficiency, strategic engagement, and stronger global partnerships.”
Tinubu congratulated both appointees and charged them to work diligently to promote Nigeria’s interests globally, deepen economic diplomacy, support regional peace, and ensure the welfare of Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.
