US President Donald Trump says he will miss his son Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding this weekend because of ongoing government matters requiring his presence in Washington, D.C.

Trump confirmed the decision on Friday, days after saying the war involving Iran had created “bad timing” for him to attend the Bahamas ceremony where Donald Trump Jr. is set to marry Bettina Anderson.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump said: “While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so.”

“I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time. Congratulations to Don and Bettina!” he added.

Following the announcement, the White House confirmed changes to the president’s travel plans, stating that Trump would cancel his planned weekend trip to his New Jersey golf resort and remain in the nation’s capital.

Trump did not provide details about the situation demanding his attention, but the decision comes amid critical diplomatic efforts linked to the Middle East conflict.

Iran is reportedly considering a new proposal from Washington, while Pakistan’s influential army chief is travelling to Tehran as part of mediation efforts.

Meanwhile, relations between the United States and Cuba have become more strained after US authorities indicted former Cuban leader Raul Castro.

The US military has also increased its presence in the Caribbean by sending an aircraft carrier alongside escort warships to the region.
