In a move aimed at strengthening party unity, the Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has resolved to adopt consensus candidates for all elective offices in the 2027 general elections.

Governor Francis Nwifuru made the announcement after a prolonged stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Abakaliki, noting that the decision was part of efforts to sustain peace within the party.

“As the leader of the party, we convened a meeting of stakeholders and deliberated on issues concerning our party,” he said, emphasising that the outcome reflected broad agreement among party leaders.

The meeting was attended by a wide range of stakeholders, including former governors, legislators, ministers, and ambassadors, who commended the governor’s initiative.

Consultations Led to Agreement

Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim explained that the consensus arrangement emerged from a series of consultations held across the state’s senatorial districts.

He described the process as inclusive and historic, noting:

“For the first time in the history of the state, stakeholders, the electorate, and party members were fully involved in selecting those who will fly the party’s flag.”

Unified Ticket Strategy

The consensus decision means APC candidates will emerge without internal contests in all constituencies across Ebonyi State.

“The implication is that there is no constituency that is going to be contested because we have reached consensus on all elective offices,” Anyim stated.

He added that the strategy is expected to strengthen party cohesion and improve its electoral prospects in 2027, with members mobilising support for the agreed candidates.

The list of candidates will be made public at a later date.

The development builds on earlier consultative meetings organised by the governor across the state to harmonise positions on candidate selection for legislative offices.
