The Edo State Government has denied reports that it banned Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, from entering the state, insisting that the singer remains welcome.

Edo Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, dismissed the claim in a statement issued on Friday, describing the report as false.

The claim followed alleged recriminations between the Adeleke family and Governor Monday Okpebholo during the recently concluded Osun governorship election, with an online publication reporting that Davido had subsequently been barred from entering Edo.

But Afegbua said the report did not represent the position of the Edo Government.

“Our enemies are at it again; we did not ban Davido from entering Edo State,” he said.

According to the commissioner, Edo State remains open to everyone regardless of political persuasion, beliefs, affinity or legal affiliation.

He further said the government would be happy to collaborate with Davido should the singer decide to visit or perform in the state.

Edo Govt: ‘We Would Happily Host and Fete Him’

Afegbua said Davido had a strong connection to Edo through his mother, who hails from the state.

“Davido is one of our illustrious sons, whose mother hails from Edo State; he’s exemplary, and we are pleased to associate with him,” he said.

The commissioner added: “Should he wish to visit Edo State, we would happily host and fete him. Whatever transpired in Osun State in the wake of last week’s election was purely politics and nothing more.

“There was nothing personal in the conversations that deepened the campaigns.”

Afegbua also praised Davido as one of Nigeria’s global ambassadors, saying the singer had used his platform to build bridges across socio-political divides.

He said the state government was proud of Davido’s conduct and accomplishments in the music industry and expressed hope that the Afrobeats star would win a Grammy Award in the future.
