Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has applauded the Nigerian Army for intensifying the fight against illegal oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism, noting that the operations have produced encouraging outcomes.

Fubara spoke on Friday in Port Harcourt while hosting the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, who paid him a courtesy visit.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Army Chief was accompanied by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Emekah, and other senior military officials.

The governor said the Army’s continuous clampdown on crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism had helped boost crude oil production and improve national revenue.

He added that the efforts of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division had also strengthened the protection of lives and property within Rivers State.

“I can conveniently say that within the short period you have been appointed, there are a lot of positive things that our state has recorded in terms of security.

“I wish that your tenure would record more positive improvements for the Nigerian Army,” the governor said.

Fubara also thanked the Nigerian Army for choosing Rivers State to host the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration, describing the move as evidence of the peaceful nature of the state.
