‘I Look Forward to More Decisive Strikes’ — Tinubu Speaks After ISIS Commander Killed
Tinubu praised the United States and Donald Trump after a successful counterterrorism strike in the Lake Chad Basin.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed that senior ISIS figure Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki was killed during a joint counterterrorism operation carried out by Nigerian and United States forces in the Lake Chad Basin.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Nigerian president described the operation as a successful example of international cooperation against terrorism.
“Overnight, Nigeria and the United States recorded a significant example of effective collaboration in the fight against terrorism,” Tinubu stated.
He explained that the Nigerian Armed Forces worked closely with the US military to execute the operation, which targeted the ISIS leader’s compound.
“Our determined Nigerian Armed Forces, working closely with the Armed Forces of the United States, conducted a daring joint operation that dealt a heavy blow to the ranks of the Islamic State,” he said.
According to the president, early reports confirmed the death of Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, also known as Abu-Mainok, along with several of his associates.
“Early assessments confirm the elimination of the wanted IS senior leader, Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki… along with several of his lieutenants,” the statement added.
Tinubu commended Donald Trump for his role and expressed appreciation for the partnership between both countries.
“Nigeria appreciates this partnership with the United States in advancing our shared security objectives,” he said.
The president also praised the military personnel involved and signaled the possibility of further military operations against terrorist groups.
“I commend the personnel involved on both sides for their professionalism and courage, and I look forward to more decisive strikes against all terrorist enclaves across the nation,” Tinubu stated.
