Ibadan Crash: Two Killed, Many Hurt as Truck Ploughs into Vehicles, Pedestrians
Several injured and two dead after a HOWO truck lost control and caused a multi-vehicle crash in Ibadan’s Soka Junction area.
Two people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a multiple-vehicle crash at Soka Junction in Ibadan along the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway.
The accident, which happened at about 10:10 p.m. on Saturday, involved several vehicles, including a Toyota Venza and a BMW, both badly damaged.
Initial findings show that a white HOWO truck bearing registration number Gombe GEM696XE lost control and crashed into other vehicles and pedestrians.
Witnesses said the driver, identified as Abdullahi Bashiru, was allegedly driving recklessly at high speed before the collision occurred.
Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the incident, stating that “two (2) persons lost their lives, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.”
He noted that the crash affected multiple vehicles and caused extensive damage.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has sympathised with the victims’ families and prayed for the recovery of the injured.
Ayanlade further stated that “a thorough investigation has commenced to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure that justice is served.”
He cautioned drivers against excessive speed and urged strict adherence to traffic regulations.
The police also reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property, encouraging the public to cooperate by providing relevant information when necessary.
