Iran Not Rebuilding Nuclear Capacity, US Intelligence Report Reveals
A new US intelligence assessment finds no effort by Iran to rebuild nuclear enrichment facilities destroyed in 2025, raising questions over claims of an imminent threat.
A new US intelligence assessment has found that Iran has made no moves to rebuild its nuclear enrichment programme following its destruction in a June 2025 US-Israeli strike, contradicting claims by President Donald Trump.
The finding was included in written testimony by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard to the Senate intelligence committee on Wednesday, though she did not highlight it during her verbal presentation.
“As a result of Operation Midnight Hammer, Iran’s nuclear enrichment program was obliterated. There has been no efforts since then to try to rebuild their enrichment capability,” Gabbard wrote.
When pressed on the discrepancy, she explained that she lacked sufficient time to read the full statement during the hearing but did not refute its contents.
Trump has defended the February 28 attack, conducted with Israel, citing an “imminent threat.” Despite earlier stating that Iran’s nuclear sites had been fully destroyed, he has since claimed the country was weeks away from acquiring a nuclear weapon—a view not shared by most analysts and expressed even as diplomatic talks continue.
Adding to the controversy, a senior aide to Gabbard resigned a day earlier, asserting there was no imminent danger and suggesting the president had been misled.
In her remarks, Gabbard acknowledged that Iran had suffered heavy losses during the conflict, including the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, but said the government remains in place.
According to her, the US intelligence community believes Iran’s regime is still standing, though significantly weakened by strikes targeting its leadership and military infrastructure.
“If a hostile regime survives, it will likely seek to begin a years-long effort to rebuild its military, missiles, and UAV forces,” she said.
