Kano Police Rescue Kidnapped Toddler, Recover Ransom, Arrest Three

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have rescued a two-year-old kidnap victim, apprehended three suspects, and recovered part of the ransom paid by the victim’s family.

This was contained in a statement released on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

According to Kiyawa, the case was reported on April 19 by a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala LGA, who said his two-year-old son, Aliyu Muhammad, was abducted in front of their home by unknown individuals.

He said the kidnappers later demanded a ransom of N1 million, which the family paid, but the child was not released.

Upon receiving the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, ordered the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to intensify efforts using all available intelligence and operational tools.

Kiyawa said the breakthrough came after sustained surveillance and a technical operation led to the identification of the suspects’ hideout.

“Through sustained follow-up and a technical operation, the hideout was identified and the suspects were arrested,” he said.

Those arrested were named as Hassan Umar, 26; Abdullahi Hamisu, 19; and Hussaini Saminu, 24, all from Gwammaja Quarters in Kano.

Investigations showed that the child was held captive at the residence of Hussaini Saminu.

The police spokesperson confirmed that the victim was rescued safely and reunited with his family.

He added that N930,000 was recovered from the suspects as part of the ransom earlier paid.

Commending the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Bakori praised their professionalism and tactical efficiency in ensuring the victim was rescued unharmed.

He also appreciated the support of the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, noting that it contributed significantly to the success of the operation.

The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s resolve to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes, warning that Kano would remain unsafe for criminal activities.

He urged the public to remain vigilant, monitor their wards closely, and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

Kiyawa stated that the suspects would be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
