Mrs. Rachael Folawe Alamu, the abducted principal of Community High School, Esiele, in Oyo State’s Oriire Local Government Area, has refuted reports that her captors are demanding a N1 billion ransom, weapons, or the introduction of Sharia law.

Speaking in a video that surfaced online on Monday, the principal said the information being circulated about the kidnappers’ demands was inaccurate.

The video emerged 24 days after her abduction and showed Mrs. Alamu addressing reports she said had been brought to the attention of the captives.

According to her, she and others in captivity were shown news reports alleging that the abductors wanted money and the enforcement of Sharia law across Nigeria.

She maintained that those claims were false.

Mrs. Alamu said the kidnappers had made only one request — the release of some of their associates currently being held in custody.

She called on authorities and the public to avoid turning the incident into a political issue and instead concentrate on securing the release of the victims.

The principal further appealed to Nigerians to share her message widely, stressing that the abductors had not made any additional demands beyond the release of the detained persons.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies and government authorities had not issued an official reaction to the video.
