Kidnappers Seize Oyo Headmaster, Demand N30m for His Freedom
The headmaster of Nomadic Basic School in Oyo State has been kidnapped, with his abductors demanding a N30 million ransom. Police say efforts are underway to rescue him.
A headmaster in Oyo State, Mr. Matthew Kolawale Owoade, has been abducted by suspected kidnappers who are demanding N30 million to secure his release.
Mr. Owoade, 60, who heads the Nomadic Basic School in Igbojaye, Itesiwaju Local Government Area, was reportedly kidnapped on Saturday, July 11, 2026, while returning from his farm.
His son, Abiola Owoade, said the gunmen intercepted his father on his way home before taking him to an unknown destination.
According to the family, the abductors later reached out through the victim’s mobile phone and demanded a ransom of N30 million.
On Sunday morning, July 12, 2026, a search team reportedly discovered the victim’s motorcycle abandoned in a nearby bush, raising further concerns over his whereabouts.
The abduction has sparked concern among residents, colleagues and members of the education community, who have appealed to the police, DSS, NSCDC and other security agencies to intensify rescue efforts and ensure Mr. Owoade’s safe return.
The family has also called on anyone with useful information to assist security operatives in locating the abducted school headmaster.
Reacting to the development, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident, saying:
“I can confirm to you that a farmer, Mr Owoade Mathew, was kidnapped at his farm in Budo Aare, and efforts are on to rescue the man unhurt and arrest the perpetrator.”
