Madagascar Clash: Okoye Finally Joins Super Eagles Camp in Uyo

Maduka Okoye has linked up with the Super Eagles in Uyo ahead of Nigeria’s first 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar on Friday.

The Nigeria Football Federation announced the Udinese goalkeeper’s arrival on Friday via the Super Eagles’ official X account, posting a picture of the 24-man squad member.

“Welcome, Maduka,” the team wrote.

Okoye arrived after missing Nigeria’s opening two training sessions and became the last member of the 24-man squad to report to camp.

His absence had generated criticism after he was seen attending Milan Fashion Week, where he represented his Italian club, Udinese, and modelled the team’s third kit.

He was also photographed alongside American rapper Cardi B during the fashion event.

Chelle subsequently clarified that Okoye’s late arrival was due to a request from Udinese for the goalkeeper to stay in Italy and take part in club activities before travelling to Nigeria.

Okoye’s arrival means Chelle now has his three goalkeepers available for the Group L opener, with Stanley Nwabali and Arthur Okonkwo already in camp.

The Super Eagles will host Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo at 5pm on Friday, as they begin their campaign to qualify for the 2027 AFCON.
