Man, 54, Pleads Not Guilty to Alleged Theft of Five Goats Worth N300,000

A 54-year-old man pleaded not guilty after being arraigned in Ibadan over alleged theft of five goats and dangerous driving that reportedly injured a man.

A 54-year-old man has been arraigned at the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over the alleged theft of five goats valued at N300,000.

The defendant appeared before the court on Tuesday to face a five-count charge involving conspiracy, stealing, dangerous driving and causing bodily harm. He pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Inspector Funmilayo Ige, the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences alongside other suspects who remain at large.

She said the incident occurred on July 24 at about 10 a.m. at Oloje, Ireakari area, Soka, Ibadan.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant allegedly took five goats belonging to Alhaji Dauda Oyakojo and attempted to flee from the scene.

Ige further alleged that the defendant drove dangerously while making his escape, resulting in injuries to a man identified as Tasiu Hassan.

The prosecutor told the court that the alleged offences violated Sections 390 (3), (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

She also cited Section 3 (1) of the Reckless/Dangerous Driving Act, Cap. 142, Vol. V, and the Road Traffic Act, Cap. 148, Vol. V, Laws of Oyo State 2000.

Following the proceedings, Chief Magistrate Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million and required two sureties in like sum.

The court ordered that one surety must be a property owner, while the second must be a blood relative of the defendant.

The magistrate subsequently adjourned the matter until October 14 for hearing.
