Mbeumo Shines for Man United as African Stars Impress Across Europe

African footballers delivered several standout performances across Europe over the weekend, with Cameroon striker Bryan Mbeumo among the headline-makers after scoring a brilliant solo goal for Manchester United.

Mbeumo’s effort helped United take the lead against Everton, but the Manchester club were unable to hold on as the two sides played out a 2-2 Premier League draw.

Here are some of the African players who caught the eye in Europe’s top leagues.

England: Bryan Mbeumo

Bryan Mbeumo continued his strong start to the season with a superb individual goal for Manchester United.

The Cameroon forward raced through and fired a powerful shot beyond Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the 46th minute.

It was Mbeumo’s second goal in three games this season, having previously scored during United’s 5-2 win over Ipswich.

Spain: Nicolas Pepe

Nicolas Pepe gave Villarreal the lead against Deportivo La Coruna with an excellent finish, although his side eventually suffered a 3-2 defeat.

The Ivory Coast winger took advantage of Deportivo’s goalkeeper coming off his line and failing to get to the ball before curling a superb effort into the net.

The goal was the former Arsenal player’s second of the season.

Spain: Aubameyang leads Deportivo comeback

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was instrumental in Deportivo La Coruna’s impressive comeback victory over Villarreal.

The former Gabon international created two goals, providing assists for Luismi Cruz and Zakaria Eddahchouri as the visitors recovered from behind.

Aubameyang then produced the decisive moment late in the match, breaking through and sliding the ball home for his fourth goal in four games.

Italy: Assane Diao hits brace

Senegal international Assane Diao was twice on target as Como came from behind to defeat Genoa 4-1 in Serie A.

The Champions League qualifiers saw Diao score once in each half, with his first goal coming from a volley and his second finding the corner of the net.

Germany: Guirassy inspires Dortmund comeback

Serhou Guirassy played a key role in Borussia Dortmund’s dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Hoffenheim.

The Guinea striker pulled Dortmund back into the contest in the 61st minute by lifting a clever finish over the Hoffenheim goalkeeper when his side were 2-0 down.

Five minutes later, Guirassy turned creator, producing an excellent pass for Fabio Silva to score Dortmund’s equaliser.

Germany: El Khannouss scores stunner

Bilal El Khannouss produced one of the weekend’s most impressive individual goals as Stuttgart defeated Cologne 4-1.

The Moroccan collected possession outside the penalty area, beat two Cologne defenders by nutmegging them and then drilled a low effort into the bottom-left corner.

France: Nuamah makes decisive impact

Ghana winger Ernest Nuamah completed Lyon’s 3-1 Ligue 1 win over Auxerre with a 53rd-minute goal.

Nuamah, who returned after suffering a serious ankle injury last year, also played a role in Lyon’s opening goal.

His contribution earned him the player-of-the-match award as Lyon secured victory.
