Mo Bimpe Fires Back at Critics Over Viral Clip With Jide Awobona

Nollywood actress Mo Bimpe has hit back at social media users who questioned her interaction with actor Jide Awobona in a viral video from a recent movie premiere.

The video was captured during the September 2, 2026 premiere of A Mama Deola Wedding Story in Lagos. It showed Mo Bimpe sitting between Jide Awobona and her husband, Lateef Adedimeji.

At one point, Mo Bimpe leaned on Jide’s shoulder while both appeared to be looking at something on her phone. The brief interaction drew reactions online, as some viewers claimed Lateef appeared uncomfortable with the situation.

The reactions sparked a wider debate about acceptable boundaries and conduct between friends in marriage.

However, Mo Bimpe dismissed the concerns in a statement posted on her Instagram story on Sunday. She questioned why a simple conversation between friends had been interpreted negatively and emphasized that her marriage is based on trust rather than suspicion.

She said, “Not every marriage is built on fear, insecurity, and constant monitoring. Some marriages are built on trust, friendship, respect, and confidence. The fact that so many of you found that interaction strange says more about the relationships you’re used to than it does about mine. Not every marriage is toxic, there are still healthy marriages but I understand if you can’t relate. My husband is a secure man, a brief conversation with a family friend does not threaten our marriage, or require anyone’s concern.”

The actress maintained that the interaction with Jide was harmless and did not warrant the level of concern expressed by some social media users.
