MultiChoice Nigeria: CANAL+ Ownership Won’t Affect Local Decision-Making
MultiChoice Nigeria CEO Kemi Omotosho has clarified the company’s ownership structure, saying operations remain focused on the Nigerian market.
MultiChoice Nigeria has moved to clarify its corporate structure following its integration into CANAL+, assuring customers and stakeholders that the Nigerian business continues to operate with a strong local focus.
Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, Kemi Omotosho, said decisions relating to pricing, content, channel packaging and distribution for services including DStv and GOtv remain locally driven.
According to Omotosho, the company’s management, strategy and daily operations are still tailored to the needs of the Nigerian market.
She disclosed that MultiChoice Nigeria officially became part of CANAL+, the France-headquartered global media and entertainment group with operations in 70 countries, in September 2025.
“MultiChoice Nigeria operates as part of that global group, but our business here remains firmly focused on Nigeria, our customers, our people, our partners, and our local creative industry,” she said.
Omotosho explained that a local executive team makes decisions affecting DStv and GOtv, relying on its understanding of Nigeria’s economic conditions, consumer behaviour and market dynamics.
She said the company’s membership of a global media group had sometimes created misconceptions about where operational decisions are made.
According to her, CANAL+’s ownership does not mean that important decisions concerning the Nigerian market are controlled from outside the country.
“The advantage of being part of a global group is that we can draw on ideas, technology, and experience from other markets and adapt what works for Nigeria,” Omotosho said.
“Equally, when we develop something successful here, there is an opportunity for other markets to learn from us. The principle is quite simple: we think globally, but we act locally.”
She said the partnership between CANAL+’s global resources and MultiChoice Nigeria’s knowledge of the local market would enhance the company’s ability to deal with macroeconomic challenges.
Omotosho added that the structure would allow the company to continue investing in Nigerian content, infrastructure and the development of local talent.
She said MultiChoice Nigeria would benefit from CANAL+’s international expertise and technology while retaining the flexibility to respond to changing conditions and consumer needs in Nigeria.
