My Focus Is Bauchi South Senate Seat, Not Jonathan’s Ticket — Bala Mohammed
Bala Mohammed says his focus remains on contesting the Bauchi South Senate seat, dismissing rumours about Jonathan’s ticket.
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has refuted claims that he is being considered as the vice-presidential candidate to former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governor’s response followed widespread reports on social media alleging that he could emerge as Jonathan’s running mate under a faction of the PDP.
The rumours gained momentum after a PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki announced Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the next general election.
Jonathan’s nomination was endorsed during a special convention in Abuja, where his certificate of return was accepted on his behalf by Fred Agbedi.
However, Mohammed has dismissed any suggestion that he is part of the arrangement, insisting that his political ambition remains unchanged.
In a response to an X post by Nuhu Sada, the governor reiterated his commitment to contesting the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” he said.
Mohammed further urged members of the public to disregard reports linking him to any vice-presidential bid.
“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate,” he added.
The denial comes as political parties and key figures continue to reposition ahead of what is expected to be an intense build-up to the 2027 general elections.
