NDJ Orders DJs to Drop Burna Boy Tracks Pending Probe into DJ Tunez Incident
Burna Boy’s songs have been removed from DJ playlists across Nigeria after an alleged altercation with DJ Tunez. Here’s what the NDJ said.
Music by Burna Boy has been removed from playlists across the Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) network after a reported confrontation with DJ Tunez.
The altercation reportedly occurred on Monday night at Obi’s House, a popular Afrobeats gathering in Lagos. Eyewitness accounts suggest a verbal disagreement between both parties escalated into a physical clash, with members of Burna Boy’s team allegedly getting involved before the situation was eventually contained.
While the root cause of the dispute has not been confirmed, online discussions have linked it to long-standing rivalries within the music industry. In particular, DJ Tunez’s affiliation with Wizkid has been highlighted, given the frequent comparisons between Wizkid and Burna Boy.
In a strongly worded statement shared on Instagram, the NDJ condemned all forms of discrimination and urged unity among industry players.
“No one is born hating another because of the skin colour, religion, background or gender… if they can learn to hate, they can also be taught to love since love comes naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
Reaffirming its principles, the association stated:
“Here at NigerianDJ, we put all our DJs first, standing firm on ‘ALL DJs are EQUAL’… helping our DJs and clients achieve their goals and ambitions, both in Home 🇳🇬 and in Diaspora.”
It also underscored the need for fairness and inclusion across the DJ community:
“We plead with all communities #NDJ to please be tolerant—to reject prejudice… and to ensure freedom and equality for all the DJs nationwide, so that they can flourish.”
The NDJ ultimately announced a temporary ban on Burna Boy’s music as it investigates the matter.
“Burna Boy Music is temporary out of any of our DJs playlist till further notice… our team will carry out a proper investigation on last night incident that happened to one of our own, DJ Tunez.”
