Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has voiced strong support for Donald Trump’s decision to impose a naval blockade on Iran, emphasizing ongoing coordination between Israel and the United States.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting on Monday, Netanyahu linked the move to what he described as Iran’s violation of terms during recent peace talks in Pakistan.

“Iran violated the rules (of the peace talks in Pakistan), President Trump decided to impose a naval blockade,” he said.

“We, of course, support this firm position, and we are in constant coordination with the United States.”

The US military confirmed that the blockade would take effect Monday, targeting all Iranian ports after negotiations with Tehran collapsed over the weekend.

Trump had earlier announced plans to block the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil and trade route, following unsuccessful talks in Islamabad. The discussions involved US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian officials.

The blockade, which began at 1400 GMT, applies to ships leaving or attempting to access Iranian ports on both sides of the waterway.

Netanyahu said the talks failed because Iran did not meet agreed conditions, including reopening the strait.

“The breakdown came from the American side, which could not tolerate Iran’s blatant violation of the terms for entering negotiations,” he said.

“The agreement was that there would be a ceasefire, and that the Iranians would immediately open the strait. They did not do so.”

He further revealed that Vance had briefed him that Trump’s primary goal is to eliminate Iran’s enriched uranium and prevent future nuclear development.

“That is their focus, and of course it is important to us as well,” Netanyahu added.
