Nigeria Urges Dialogue, Restraint Over Saudi Arabia-Houthi Crisis

Nigeria has urged the immediate de-escalation of tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi militia, reaffirming its commitment to peaceful conflict resolution.

The Federal Government has appealed for restraint and peaceful engagement amid escalating tensions and reported attacks involving the Houthi militia in Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In a statement signed by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, on Sunday in Abuja, the government called for the immediate de-escalation of the conflict and urged all parties to avoid actions that could heighten hostilities or put civilian lives at risk.

The statement stressed that dialogue, diplomacy and other peaceful mechanisms remain the best path to resolving differences, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

It warned that any further escalation of the conflict could have serious implications for regional peace and security.

The Federal Government also reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes and pledged its support for genuine initiatives aimed at reducing tensions, restoring stability and fostering lasting peace in the region.
