No Active Social Media Accounts, Labour Party Warns Against Fake X Page
Labour Party petitions police to recover its official X account, warns against fake posts online.
The Labour Party has reiterated that it does not currently run any social media account, cautioning Nigerians against engaging with a fraudulent X handle impersonating the party.
In a statement released Sunday in Abuja, Ken Asogwa said the account named “LABOUR PARTY (LP) NIG” with handle @LabourpartyNGR_ is fake and misleading.
“This account falsely claims to disseminate official information on behalf of the party,” he said.
“Preliminary checks reveal that this is the same account previously disowned by the party in its February statement.
“Following that disclaimer, the operators deceptively altered both the account name and handle in a bid to continue misleading unsuspecting members of the public.”
He noted that while the party has recognised accounts on Facebook and X—Labour Party-Nig and LabourPartyNG—both are presently inactive.
Asogwa disclosed that the party has petitioned the Nigeria Police Force to recover control of its official X account, currently held by elements of the former leadership.
“The matter is receiving due attention, and individuals involved, including Barr. Julius Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk are cooperating with the Force Intelligence Department,” he said.
He added that updates would be communicated once investigations are concluded and the accounts are recovered.
Asogwa stressed that the party communicates solely through official press statements, warning the public to disregard any social media posts attributed to it, including claims about the return of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
He also commended the media for its vigilance and professionalism in reporting the party’s activities.
