Osun Election: Faleke Denies Pressuring INEC, Tells Davido ‘Face Your Music’
Faleke responds to Davido’s Osun election claim, denying any attempt to influence INEC and insisting he only supported APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji.
James Faleke, the lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in Lagos, has rejected allegations by Nigerian singer Davido that he attempted to pressure INEC over the outcome of the Osun governorship election.
Faleke, an APC supporter who backed the party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, responded to Davido in a Sunday post on X.
Davido had accused the lawmaker of trying to influence the electoral commission during the collation of results in Osogbo on Saturday.
“Hon. James Faleke, stop putting pressure on INEC to change Osun election result. Respect the wishes of Osun people. We don’t want Oyetola and AMBO,” Davido posted.
Faleke dismissed the allegation, saying he was in Osun to campaign for his party’s candidate, while Davido supported his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party.
“I came to Osun to support my party’s candidate, while you supported your uncle’s party (Accord). INEC is a body that can’t be influenced by me or anyone else,” Faleke replied.
The lawmaker insisted that he had never attempted to rig an election and had no intention of doing so.
“I have never influenced or rigged before and I don’t plan to start now. Face your music while we face our politics,” he added.
Following Adeleke’s declaration as the winner, Faleke put aside the political contest to congratulate the governor on his re-election.
He also praised Oyebamiji for what he called a “very good outing”, commending the APC candidate’s commitment and sportsmanship during the election.
“I would also like to congratulate the Governor and candidate of the Accord Party, Governor Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke, on his re-election as Governor of Osun State. I wish him a successful tenure and urge him to continue to work for the peace, progress, and development of the state,” Faleke said.
He further described the election as proof that democracy remained vibrant in Nigeria and commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its commitment to democratic values.
Faleke also applauded INEC for the conduct of the poll and security agencies for maintaining what he described as a peaceful and orderly process.
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes, and retain the Osun governorship.
