More than 17,500 Americans have made their way back to the United States since the US and Israel began military operations against Iran last weekend, the United States Department of State confirmed on Wednesday.

According to Assistant Secretary of State Dylan Johnson, more than 8,500 Americans returned on Tuesday.

He stated that nearly 6,500 individuals received assistance from the State Department, though most Americans left the region on their own, primarily using commercial flights.

Johnson also revealed that US authorities are organizing charter flights and are waiving the usual fees for Americans who take advantage of the service.
