P-Square: ‘Mum opposed Jude managing Peter and Paul’ — Henry Okoye

Henry Okoye, the elder brother of Peter and Paul Okoye, has disclosed that their late mother, Josephine, was against Jude Okoye taking over the management of the music duo, P-Square.

Henry spoke during an interview with social commentator Jos Connection at the Okoye family home in Plateau State on Friday, where he recounted how he helped Peter and Paul launch their music career before Jude became involved.

He said he personally sponsored the duo at a time when they were struggling to secure support for their music.

“When they started music, they were looking for sponsors. They didn’t see any. When I started sponsoring them, Jude was not there,” Henry said.

He recalled taking the brothers to perform when Benson & Hedges visited Jos in search of artistes.

“When Benson & Hedges came to Jos looking for artistes, it was me that took them to the stadium for a performance; they came first. Jude was not there. We were travelling from state to state for music, sometimes they used my car (to distribute) flyers,” he added.

According to Henry, the family supported Peter and Paul collectively but understood that the music belonged to the two brothers.

“We just took it as a family thing but we knew that it’s Peter and Paul that own it. We’re only supporting them,” he said.

He recalled that other family members also played different roles during the duo’s early performances, while he acted as their security.

“Sometimes we travelled to Abuja; my sister, the one we call Lilian, was the one who collected gate fee. As the elder brother I was the bodyguard,” he said.

Henry said the situation changed after Peter and Paul began earning money and Jude decided to manage them.

“They started making money bit by bit. Jude came in and said he wanted to manage them. We allowed Jude, my mum disagreed,” he stated.

Their mother, Josephine Okoye, died on July 11, 2012, in India following heart surgery.

Henry further alleged that Jude’s involvement affected an earlier arrangement under which he was expected to receive 20 per cent after the brothers became successful.

“They promised me 20 per cent when they start making money. Jude intervened and dismissed that. I challenged him that he wasn’t there when we started everything but now chasing everybody away from them,” Henry said.

He also expressed disappointment over Paul’s changed attitude, describing him as someone who was previously “the nicest person in the family”.

While Henry said he would welcome a reunion between Peter and Paul, he admitted that he was not optimistic about the possibility.

“I will be happy for them to come back together but I don’t think it will happen. Paul was a very kind person,” he said.

Henry called on Jude to play a role in rebuilding peace within the Okoye family and resolving the disagreements among the siblings.

He added that their eldest brother, Christopher, has stayed away from the dispute because he is “born again”.

Peter and Paul effectively split in 2017 but reunited in 2021. Their reunion later collapsed, with the brothers falling out again in 2024.

The prolonged dispute also resulted in Jude’s arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in 2025 over alleged fraud involving N1.38 billion, $1 million and £34,537.59. Jude pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

The matter remains in court.
