PDP BoT Forms Committee to Settle Leadership Disputes, Reunite Party
PDP BoT announces reconciliation committee to end internal conflicts and strengthen party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) has constituted a special reconciliation committee to engage with legal advisors and party stakeholders to resolve internal leadership tensions.
Announcing the move in Abuja at the close of a two-day emergency meeting, BoT Chairman Sen. Adolphus Wabara said the committee would address disputes stemming from the Court of Appeal ruling of March 9, which invalidated the party’s November 2025 National Convention that elected the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC).
The BoT expressed disagreement with the court decision but said it is awaiting guidance from the party’s lawyers on next steps. The communiqué highlighted the damaging effects of internal conflicts on party unity.
“As the conscience and third-highest leadership organ of the party, the board is resolved to take immediate steps to reconcile all stakeholders, end all disputes, and restore the party to good political health,” the statement said.
The BoT also praised the party’s supporters for their loyalty during the ongoing nationwide e-registration exercise, reporting a surge of millions of new members joining daily.
“The unprecedented surge to our party, in spite of the challenges, underscores the standing of the PDP as the party of choice for the majority of Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.”
Dr Babangida Aliyu was appointed Secretary of the Board under Section 32 of the PDP Constitution (2017 amendment). The board also commended Gov. Bala Mohammed and Gov. Seyi Makinde for their commitment to party stability.
The BoT called on all members and leaders to prioritize party unity over personal ambitions as the PDP positions itself for the 2027 general elections.
