Police Probe VDM’s Allegations, Invite Activist and Question AIG Moshood Jimoh
Police say VeryDarkMan has been invited to provide evidence for his allegations, while AIG Moshood Jimoh has been summoned for questioning.
The Nigeria Police Force has commenced action on allegations made by social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), confirming that both the activist and Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Moshood Jimoh have been drawn into its investigative process.
In a statement released on Tuesday by Force spokesperson CSP Ani Iniedu, the Police said the Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, had invited AIG Jimoh for questioning in connection with the allegations.
The statement further disclosed that the Force CID wrote to VDM on July 30, 2026, requesting his appearance before investigators to substantiate the claims he made publicly.
According to the Police, the investigation reflects the Force’s commitment to accountability and due process, irrespective of the rank of any officer or the identity of the complainant.
The Force noted that the allegations relate to recent comments made by the activist concerning the AIG in charge of Zone 2, Lagos, and a criminal case that is already before a competent court.
It explained that the matter had been investigated and charged to court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), making it inappropriate for public debate.
“The Force will not try this case in the media, nor will it allow its outcome to be shaped by public campaigns or commentary seeking to prejudge the officers or parties involved,” the statement said.
The Police reiterated that all disciplinary proceedings are conducted in line with the Constitution, the Police Act 2020, Police Regulations and Force Orders, with no officer exempt from established procedures.
It also recognised citizens’ rights to freedom of expression and public accountability but warned that those rights do not include making defamatory or unverified allegations.
The Force encouraged VeryDarkMan to honour the invitation from the Force CID and assist with the investigation, while allowing the judicial process to run its course in the pending criminal matter.
According to the statement, officers found culpable after investigation will face appropriate sanctions, while individuals who deliberately make false allegations capable of damaging the reputation of officers or the institution may also face legal action.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains an institution founded on law, discipline and accountability. No officer is above the law, and no genuine complaint is ignored; nor will any officer be sanctioned outside the procedures the law prescribes,” the statement added.
