Police Recover Rifles, Ammunition During Raid on Suspected Bandits’ Camp in Mamdam Forest

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have recovered two FN FAL rifles and live ammunition after raiding a suspected bandits’ hideout in Dajin Mamdam Forest.

The operation, conducted by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit on August 2, 2026, followed intelligence gathered during an ongoing investigation into an alleged arms trafficking syndicate accused of supplying weapons to criminal groups.

Confirming the operation on Wednesday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh said the raid was prompted by information provided by Musbahu Ishaq, one of four suspects previously arrested for allegedly supplying arms, ammunition and illicit substances to bandits.

According to her, investigators traced the group’s activities to Dajin Mamdam Forest, situated between Plateau and Bauchi states, where the syndicate allegedly operated a hideout.

“Further investigation established that Musbahu Ishaq obtained arms and ammunition from one Rabiu Hassan and supplied them to one Baba Alhaji Sanusi, a suspected bandit kingpin currently at large and believed to be hiding in a forest in Katsina State,” Adeh stated.

She said officers searched the camp and recovered two FN FAL rifles alongside live ammunition hidden inside the forest.

Adeh noted that investigations are continuing as police intensify efforts to arrest other members of the suspected network, recover more illegal weapons and bring all those involved to justice.

FCT Commissioner of Police CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi reiterated the command’s resolve to combat crime through intelligence-led operations and encouraged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies to aid ongoing efforts against criminal groups.
