Pregnant Woman, 24-Year-Old Man Killed as Gunmen Attack Plateau Community
The Berom Youth Moulders Association has condemned the killing of a pregnant woman and a youth in a fresh attack on a Plateau community.
Residents of Dyan community in Rim Village, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State have been thrown into mourning following a fresh attack by gunmen that claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and a young man.
Sources within the community said the assailants stormed the area at about 10 p.m. on Friday and opened fire on residents during the attack.
The deceased were identified as Mrs Happiness Pam, aged 32 and pregnant at the time of the incident, alongside Daniel Luka, 24.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) condemned the killings, describing the attack as a disturbing reminder of the worsening insecurity confronting communities in Plateau State.
In a statement signed by the association’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rwang Tengwong, BYM said it received news of the incident with deep sadness and outrage.
“It is heartbreaking that a pregnant woman carrying the hope of a family and an innocent young man with a promising future became victims of yet another senseless act of violence,” the group stated.
“These killings represent not only an attack on individuals but also an assault on the collective peace, security and humanity of our people.”
The association extended condolences to the bereaved families and the entire Dyan and Riyom communities over the tragic incident.
BYM urged security agencies to intensify efforts toward apprehending those behind the attack and called on both the federal and state governments to adopt stronger measures to safeguard vulnerable communities.
The group also raised alarm over the abduction of two drivers along the Kassa axis in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
According to BYM, the victims were kidnapped by armed men while travelling through the area around 10 p.m. on Thursday.
The association appealed for urgent rescue efforts and improved security along major roads frequently targeted by criminals.
It further advised residents to remain cautious and avoid late-night travel on insecure routes while reiterating its commitment to supporting peace and security initiatives across Plateau State.
