PSG crowned Ligue 1 champions again after 2-0 win at Lens
The Paris club extended their domestic dominance with a decisive win that secured the Ligue 1 crown with one game remaining.
Paris Saint-Germain have secured the Ligue 1 title for a fifth consecutive season following a 2-0 win over title challengers RC Lens.
The result ensured Luis Enrique’s team moved nine points clear with just one match remaining, making their lead mathematically uncatchable.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored PSG’s opening goal in the first half, taking his season tally to 19, before late substitute Ibrahim Mbaye added a second in stoppage time.
PSG had already moved close to the title after defeating Stade Brestois 29 1-0 in their previous match, giving them a decisive advantage in the race.
The victory extends PSG’s dominance in French football, with 14 Ligue 1 titles overall and 12 won in the past 14 seasons under Qatari ownership.
The club’s trophy collection this season also includes the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Intercontinental Cup and French Champions Trophy.
Attention now turns to the UEFA Champions League final against Arsenal in Budapest on May 30, where PSG could become back-to-back European champions.
RC Lens are confirmed to finish second and will qualify for next season’s Champions League group stage.
They also face OGC Nice in the French Cup final on May 22.
The fixture had been moved from its original April date to accommodate PSG’s Champions League schedule against Liverpool FC.
Even with several first-team players rested, PSG took the lead when Ousmane Dembélé assisted Kvaratskhelia after a defensive mistake.
Lens created chances through Abdallah Sima, who struck the post, and saw a late goal from Florian Thauvin disallowed, before Mbaye confirmed PSG’s win late on.
