‘Serpent’: Iran FM says Netanyahu manipulated Trump into Iran war

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has launched a fresh attack on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of manipulating Washington into entering a war with Iran on Israel’s behalf.

Araghchi described Netanyahu as a “serpent” in a Monday post on X, after referring to remarks in which the Israeli prime minister allegedly boasted about his ability to influence US policy and public opinion.

“In Hebrew, Netanyahu openly crows that he suckered the U.S. Administration into a war on Iran on behalf of Israel. Netanyahu explicitly laughs about how he ‘influenced’ America through 1,000 hours of airtime on U.S. networks,” Araghchi wrote.

The Iranian foreign minister contrasted those remarks with Netanyahu’s public statements in English.

“In English, he praises POTUS’ leadership. Serpent,” he added.

The accusation comes as the Iran-US conflict continues into its sixth month following the outbreak of war on February 28.

Conflict continues despite ceasefire

US-Israeli strikes at the start of the conflict killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior military commanders.

Iran responded with attacks against targets across the region as the conflict expanded beyond the immediate battlefield.

The April ceasefire halted the most intense fighting, but it failed to bring a lasting end to hostilities.

Sporadic attacks, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, have continued to undermine diplomatic efforts and reduce the chances of a comprehensive peace agreement.

Washington has in recent weeks placed greater emphasis on what it calls the “economic asphyxiation” of Iran as it seeks to increase pressure on Tehran.

Despite the shift towards economic pressure, the US military conducted a fresh strike late Sunday against Iran’s Larak Island.

The attack marked the first US strike of its kind against Iran in a month.

Iran said it retaliated by attacking military bases in Jordan and the UAE that are used by US forces.

Netanyahu rules out Iran-US agreement

The latest escalation followed comments by Netanyahu last week in which he rejected the possibility of an Iran-US agreement.

He also referred to Iran’s leaders as “savages”.

The remarks and subsequent military exchanges have further complicated diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, while Tehran continues to accuse Israel of pushing Washington deeper into the confrontation.

Araghchi’s comments add to Iran’s longstanding argument that the United States’ military campaign against Tehran has been driven significantly by Israeli interests and Netanyahu’s influence in Washington.
