Spurs Complete £75m Savinho Signing From Man City

Tottenham have signed Manchester City winger Savinho for an initial reported fee of £75 million ($102 million), with the deal pushing their total spending in the transfer market beyond £300 million this summer.

Savinho, 22, spent two seasons at City but was unable to establish himself as a regular member of the first team. Tottenham believe the Brazil international can bring greater pace and creativity to their attack following a campaign in which they narrowly escaped relegation from the Premier League.

“It’s taken a while but I’m very happy to be here,” Savinho said in a statement released by Tottenham.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.

“As soon as I spoke to the head coach I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level and I believe we can do that together, as a team.”

De Zerbi played a key role in helping Spurs preserve their Premier League status late last season, preventing the club from falling into the second tier of English football for the first time in 49 years.

Despite that success, his ambitious rebuilding project suffered an early setback this season as Tottenham were beaten 3-0 by Brentford in their opening Premier League fixture.

Savinho becomes the latest major addition to the squad following the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Jan Paul van Hecke. Spurs have also signed Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka on free transfers.

Describing his latest recruit, De Zerbi said: “Savio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions. He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity.”

“We’re very pleased to have him with us, and I’m looking forward to working with him, helping him continue to grow and seeing him bring his personality to the team.”

City are reportedly in line to earn up to another £10 million through add-ons included in the transfer.

The two clubs could also conduct another deal before next week’s transfer deadline, with Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush reportedly poised to move from Manchester to north London.

Savinho arrived at City from Troyes for £30 million in 2024. Troyes are among the clubs owned by the City Football Group.

His reputation grew significantly during a productive loan spell at Girona, another City Football Group side, but he has struggled to replicate that form since moving to England.

Savinho made 84 appearances for Manchester City and scored seven goals, while the club failed to secure either Premier League or Champions League success during Pep Guardiola’s final two seasons as manager.
