Suspect Remanded in Kirikiri After Viral Domestic Violence Allegation in Lagos
A Lagos court has remanded a domestic violence suspect after police investigations linked him to the alleged assault of a woman identified as Ezeka Chisom.
A Lagos court has remanded Emeka Joseph in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after he was charged in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident involving a woman identified as Ezeka Chisom.
The Lagos State Police Command announced the development on Wednesday, following widespread circulation of a video alleging that Joseph physically assaulted the woman.
Police said preliminary investigations showed that Chisom suffered injuries to her face during the alleged assault. Authorities noted that the pair had been cohabiting before the incident.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspect had been arraigned and remanded while the matter awaits further hearing.
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a case of assault occasioning harm and domestic violence following a viral video in which there was a report that Emeka Joseph assaulted Ezeka Chisom,” the statement said.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was assaulted by the suspect, with whom she had been cohabiting. The victim sustained injuries to her face.
“The suspect has since been charged in court and remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre, while the case has been adjourned till 3rd August, 2026.”
Reacting to the case, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, emphasized the command’s zero-tolerance policy toward domestic violence and abuse.
“The Lagos State Police Command has zero tolerance for all forms of domestic violence. Cases involving violence and abuse will continue to receive prompt attention,” he said.
The police chief further urged residents to report domestic violence and other crimes without delay to enable law enforcement agencies take immediate action.
