Iran has accused the United States of violating the peace deal agreed between the two countries after Washington launched new strikes on Iranian positions.

The Iranian foreign ministry on Saturday described the American operation as a “blatant violation” of the agreement intended to end the Middle East war.

“These brutal attacks, which targeted Iranian coastal surveillance facilities, are a blatant violation” of the memorandum of understanding to end the conflict, the ministry said in a statement.

The US military said Friday’s strikes targeted Iranian missile and drone depots along with coastal radar installations.

American officials said the attacks were retaliation for what they described as an Iranian strike on a cargo ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.
