A senior political aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a strong attack on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, arguing that worsening economic conditions have left some Nigerians viewing former President Muhammadu Buhari more favourably.

Demola Olarewaju, Atiku’s Senior Assistant on Politics, made the comments during an interview on Politics Hub, where he described the current administration as a “360-degree failure” and questioned its performance across key sectors.

According to Olarewaju, rising fuel prices and economic instability have significantly increased the burden on households since Tinubu assumed office.

“Tinubu’s biggest achievement is making Nigeria poorer, and it’s because of the instability of the economy,” he said.

“Bola Tinubu has made poverty worse; he has made Buhari look like a saint. I read someone who wrote that he misses Buhari, and I thought, ‘how can someone miss Muhammadu Buhari?’ But then I thought about it—the price I buy liters of petroleum under Buhari is now almost ten times costlier under Tinubu’s government. That is not friendly to my pocket and not friendly to the pocket of any Nigerian.”

Olarewaju also faulted the administration’s handling of electricity supply, saying Nigerians continue to suffer despite changes to tariff structures and service classifications.

“The electricity doesn’t come,” he lamented, adding that the President is insulated from the hardships faced by citizens because Aso Villa now operates independently of the national grid.

“He himself took Aso Villa off the grid; he doesn’t feel what Nigerians are feeling. Tinubu’s biggest failure is his inability to connect with the everyday pains of Nigerians,” he said.

The opposition figure further expressed concern about insecurity, claiming criminal activities have expanded across the country.

“Almost every state of the country now is under siege,” Olarewaju stated. “Bandits are operating in broad daylight as close as Oyo State is to Lagos State.”

Concluding his assessment, he argued that the administration had not delivered measurable success in any sector and called for political change in the next election cycle.

“Tinubu has recorded zero achievement. There is no sector you can point to that he recorded any success,” he said. “I refer to him as a 360 failure, that is why I feel he should be kicked out by 2027.”
