Tragedy in Ajah as Gateman Allegedly Murders Employer, Flees
Police begin investigation after a gateman allegedly killed his 65-year-old employer in Ajah, Lagos, before escaping.
Shock and grief have enveloped a family in Ajah, Lagos State, following the alleged killing of a 65-year-old man, Chief Augustine Nwalieze, by his gateman.
The deceased, a manager with Okeyson Transport, was reportedly attacked at his residence on Sunday morning shortly after preparing to attend church.
A relative, who requested anonymity, said the incident has left the family in deep distress.
“I have been very heartbroken since yesterday. Something very bad happened to my father-in-law yesterday,” the source said.
He explained that the victim had gone to the car park area within the compound, where vehicle spare parts and a solar panel were stored.
“My father-in-law’s gateman killed him yesterday. He had prepared for church service when the incident happened. He walked downstairs to the car park…” he said.
Concern grew when family members were unable to reach him and noticed that none of his vehicles had been moved.
“Nobody could really tell what happened… His three cars were still parked, so they became worried… They called his phone, but he didn’t pick up,” the source added.
The gateman reportedly came under suspicion after giving conflicting statements about the victim’s whereabouts and later disappeared.
“They went to the gateman… But when the wife called that same friend, he said he hadn’t seen him that day,” the source said.
A search of the compound led to the discovery of the victim’s body in a downstairs apartment.
“They found his lifeless body… He had machete cuts on his head, hands and body. It was a terrible sight,” the source said.
The victim was taken to a hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.
Police have been notified and have visited the scene, with efforts ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect. The Lagos State Police Command had yet to release an official statement as of press time.
