US President Donald Trump has said a shooting during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner will not affect his stance on the Iran war, though he acknowledged uncertainty about the attacker’s motive.

Addressing reporters at the White House, Trump stated:

“It’s not going to deter me from winning the war in Iran. I don’t know if that had anything to do with it, I really don’t think so, based on what we know.”

He added that while the suspect is believed to be acting alone, investigators are still working to determine the motive. At one point, he remarked: “you never know” whether the incident could be connected to the conflict with Iran.

The remarks followed Trump’s earlier decision to cancel a diplomatic mission by US envoys to Pakistan aimed at Iran peace talks, saying he was unimpressed with Tehran’s position after weeks of war.

The administration says it will continue reviewing both security and diplomatic developments as tensions persist.
