The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has arrested two candidates and a parent for allegedly using artificial intelligence to falsify results in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The board made this known on Friday while announcing the release of results for 632,788 candidates who wrote the examination on April 16.

According to JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the suspects manipulated official SMS notifications to alter scores with the aim of deceiving the public.

“Currently, two candidates and one parent are in custody for engaging in result falsification using AI and other electronic means,” the statement read.

He described the offence as a serious crime and stressed that those involved would be prosecuted.

Benjamin further warned candidates against altering result messages issued through JAMB’s official SMS channels, 55019 and 66019.

Candidates who participated in the April 16 examination were advised to check their results by sending “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019 using their registered phone numbers.
