Zamfara Police Say 2 Officers, 3 Civilians Killed in Bandit Raid
Police say armed bandits attacked a Zamfara community with motorcycles, resulting in multiple casualties on both sides.
The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed that two police personnel and three civilians were killed during an attack carried out by suspected bandits in Yarkatsina Laka community.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Bello, in a statement released through the command’s spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, on Thursday in Gusau.
The CP reportedly made the confirmation during a visit to sympathize with residents affected by the incident.
Bello said the attack took place on Tuesday evening when armed bandits, numbering at least 50 motorcycles, stormed the community around 5:55 p.m. He added that the Police Strike Unit responded promptly, killing 11 of the assailants and injuring several others.
He stated that in the course of the gunfire, two officers and three civilians lost their lives, while one policeman was injured and is currently undergoing treatment.
The police commissioner extended condolences to the bereaved families and the community, while reiterating the command’s determination to strengthen security measures and restore normalcy.
He further called on the public to support security agencies by sharing reliable and actionable intelligence.
